Setting Up & Optimising a PPC Campaign - Day 1
Right, the time has come for us to pick up where we left off with our [Case Study 4->Case Study 4 - Landing Pages in Your PPC Campaign - Deciding What to Use & How] some time ago. So here comes the next part.
Remember in the last section we discussed the three methods in which you could setup your PPC campaign. I also stated at the time that I was going to try out the direct linking strategy for a short test campaign… Well, I thought about this and have decided against it for a few reasons, the main being - I don't want you to pick up bad tactics.
The truth is that direct linking campaigns work, but are becoming less and less effective on most types of products. Saying that, I need to put in a mild disclaimer, that what I'm talking about are just orthodox campaign setups. There are a lot of people out there that still make a killing just from PPC, but they are either not using direct linking, or they are using different linking, tracking & cookeing methods to what a beginner would use.
Mr X is a perfect example for that - his AdWords BlackBook (no longer on sale) made history with it's inventive techniques, but they are definitely not newbie tactics.
So the bottom line is that for something like the product I've chosen, direct linking campaign will not turn profitable - and you have to be able to see that before you even begin. The ideal setup here would be to have a pre-sell page and offer a really good bonus that no one else has to entice people to buy from you rather than someone else.
Here's a very good summary of how to to do something like that (it's completely free, really detailed, and well written): How to setup an affiliate marketing campaign with an exclusive bonus.
And… I already mentioned to you that the third way would take too long to test in a live Case Study - collecting names, building a relationship and then selling them on to the product and other relevant products. So given all of the above, what I've decided to do to close of this series of the Case Studies, is to leap head on to giving you tips on optimising your campaign, once it's being running for sometime.
I hope you will like this course of action. I am sure you would love reading through the process of building up a campaign with a bonus. I'm going to finish this post off for today for two reasons:
- I want you to email me or post a comment here with any thoughts you may have about the setup of this last section.
- I also want to hear if you have any other requests, or suggestions for a subject you want me to cover. I mentioned landing page, ad and campaign optimisation tactics, but if you'd like to know about something else as well, let me know ;o) I will do my best to deliver.
Right, that's it for today - tomorrow I will cover optimisation tactics for AdWords PPC campaigns. Until then, read over the old case studies, and the link I gave you above…
Adios!
Anita
